Hello fellow Lions. I’m hoping this newsletter finds you having enjoyed your holiday season and off to a great start in 2017. Thank you to everyone who helped with ringing the Salvation Army bell in December! Approximately 10 hours of bellringing resulted in fundraising $656.78! Your help in supporting a great cause shows what the true spirit of Lions is about- “We Serve.”

January Meeting

The meeting will be on Thursday January 19th at the VFW/Legion. Social hour will be at 6:00, meal prepared by Michele Oldfather at 7:00, and meeting to follow. Beings this is our postponed holiday meeting, we are opening this meeting up to your spouses/significant others and would love to see everyone come. Also, please bring anyone you feel would be a potential Lion’s Club member. Callers, please have your numbers to Heather by Monday, January 16th. Our guest speaker for the evening will be La Porte City Mayor Dave Neil who will be giving a State of La Porte City address. We will also have a special edition of tail twisting.

Lions Club Dues

As we begin our calendar year, this is a friendly reminder that our dues are due as well. The dues are as follows:
$190 for meals & dues and $80 for just the yearly dues. Meals & dues covers the cost for all meals, throughout the year, as well as the Lions Club dues. When paying just the $80, that enrolls you in the Lions Club membership only. Dues can be mailed to:

Lion Neal Keegan
815 Commercial St.
La Porte City, IA 50651

Your dues can also be paid at the January meeting.

May the new year bring you an abundance of amazing opportunities, beautiful moments, and joyful experiences. May your positive actions & attitude inspire others. May you be brave enough to take on and overcome rewarding challenges. May you find yourself in high spirits & excellent health. May you love with all your heart and find peace in even the most turbulent of times. May the love you give find its way back to you. And may you forever be filled with the hope & strength necessary to make your dreams a reality.  -Zero Dean

Winter Events

We also have several fun events coming up. However, these events/fundraisers don’t go off without your help. On January 21st at the Golf Course, we will be having the 1st of two trivia nights. Be thinking who you want on your team and start working on your trivia knowledge. Sunday, January 22nd, we are having the 1st of two soup lunches at the VFW Hall. We are in need of people to help work the soup lunches. Please contact Lion Bill Starr if you are able to help. More to come on these events at the meeting, but if you know you will be able to help out for the soup lunch or will be able to donate items for the soup lunch, please contact Lion Starr as soon as possible at 319-230-3857.

In February, we will be having our 2nd trivia night and 2nd soup lunch. We will also be hosting 2 Cornhole (Bags) Tournaments in February. More about these at the January meeting. Thanks to Zach Hoover for taking this project on. Let’s beat the winter blues and have fun while doing it!!
