March 2017 Newsletter

It’s Time to Pay Your Dues:

Thanks to those of you who have paid your dues. If you have not paid your dues yet, please be prepared to pay them at the March meeting, or mail them to Lion Keegan. Dues are: $190 for meals & dues and $80 for just the yearly dues. Meals & dues covers the cost for all meals, throughout the year, as well as the Lions Club dues. When paying just the $80, that enrolls you in the Lions Club membership only. Dues can be mailed to: Lion Neal Keegan 815 Commercial St. La Porte City, IA 50651.

Looking for project ideas:

There will soon be a survey going out that everyone is encouraged to participate in/comment on. The board has talked on how we would like to see the Lions Club get behind a project and use some of our proceeds from our events to fund the project. We are asking for the community AND Lions Club members to participate in this survey. The ideas will then be brought to the membership to narrow down which ones are possibilities for us to pursue. This will then lead to a fundraiser to pick the winning idea. Stay tuned.

Festival Update:

The Festival Committee and the Parade Committee continue o meet to get the details of this year’s festival lined up. We are excited to be as far along as what we are, but there are always places you can help out. More updates to come. The dates for this year’s Festival of Trails are June 15-June 17th.  Please keep an eye out for updates through Facebook as well as the flyers that are being worked on.

Bags Tournament:

We have one more bags/corn hole tournament left this “winter.” It is scheduled for Saturday, March 25th at 1:00 p.m. Bring some friends and enjoy some “friendly” competition.

Blood Drive Update:

Our next blood drive will be held April 12th at the La Porte City Legion/VFW Hall. If you are able to donate, please consider doing so. For questions, please contact Lion Dick Hutton at 319-342-3554.

Donation Approval:

Some of you may remember when Brenda Gardner came last year to speak about Inner City Slickers. The program provides a day of fun on the farm with horses for children in need. The board received and approved a donation for $250.00 to this program.

The board and I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who donated to the soup lunches and to those who worked them. Our fundraisers would not be successful if everyone didn’t do something. Your efforts and donations do not go unnoticed. As much as I would like to individually thank everyone, I don’t want to forget someone. So, while words don’t always sound like enough, they are truly meant when we say “thank you.”

St. Patrick’s Day fact: President Truman became the first U.S. President to attend a St. Patrick’s Day parade in 1948.
