October 2015 Newsletter

Hello Fellow Lions,

The meeting this month will be held at the La Porte City Golf Club on October 15th. This meeting will be held in conjunction with the La Porte City Women’s Club. The social hour will be at 6 PM and the meal at 7 PM. The bakery will be providing lasagna and sides with a salad. Julie Ames, a Trust Officer with Farmers State Bank will be speaking to us about Estate Planning. Callers, please get a hold of Jon Barz @319-415-2055 with your numbers by October 11.

The Party in the Park – Iowa vs. Iowa State game had great weather and turned out to be a great event. Nearly 150 people showed up to watch the game at the park and partake in the Sing Me to Heaven Foundation Chair-ity Auction. The Lions Club grilled up some burgers, bratwurst & hotdogs and sold them for a net profit of about $350. Our next fundraiser will be held on December 5 at the Veterans Memorial Hall, the waffle breakfast. Sign-up sheets will be available at the upcoming meetings.

The Festival of Trails has become a year-long planning process. Several committees have formed to provide additional events and activities for people of all ages. One of the new events includes bringing in the Bill Reilly Talent Show to the Festival. This would be a qualifying event to be able to participate at the State Fair. Also, sponsorships are being reworked and will be providing additional benefits with the in-kind & monetary donations.

Lastly, you will notice that there is an additional piece of paper with this newsletter. This is the schedule of events for the upcoming year. It may look familiar but there were many errors in the previous copy. Please take this, laminate it, get a magnet and hang it on your refrigerator. This is an easy reference for any of our upcoming events and meetings.

Thanks,
Shawn Mehlert
