The Festival of Trails 2015 Edition is upon us and scheduled for June 19-20, 2015. You should receive your work schedule in the mail, in the near future. Please review it and confirm that you are available for the times are scheduled for. If you got missed, feel free to call Shawn about getting fit into the work schedule. If you are unable to support the Festival for your time slot, please speak with other members or members of the community to fill your spot. The LPC Lions Club will again be hosting their 3rd Annual Saturday Trivia Nights & Sunday Soup Luncheon’s. The first set of events will happen on January 17 & 18, with the second set happening on February 21 & 22. Both events will take place at the LPC Golf Club.

Trivia Night registration is from 6 PM to 7 PM with questions beginning at 7 PM. The tournament will be set up to include individual teams consisting of at least 5 and no more than 8 people. Each team member pays $10 to play. If you cannot round up enough for full team, we will work to get you on a team. – REGISTER HERE

There will be 10 rounds of questions with 10 different categories of trivia questions with a single question from each category. (Pre-trivia question… How many questions is that?) While trying to figure that out, remember the rules.

  • No smart devices, books, etc. – brains only!
  • Each team will have an official answer sheet for each round and members are allowed to assist each other in coming up with the correct answer for each question.
  • At the end of each round, the answer sheets are handed in and scored and then the round will be reviewed with the teams and the correct answers revealed.
  • Questions are worth 10 points each, so a perfect round is worth 100 points.

January 2015 Newsletter

Greetings Fellow Lions!

Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the VFW Club with social time at 6:00 p.m., meal at 7:00 p.m. and a business meeting to follow. The menu will be fresh, hot pizza from the Pizza Palace in downtown La Porte City. Hope to see you there. The program will be planning for the upcoming fund raising events.

Our two trivia tournament for the new year are scheduled for Saturday, January 17 and Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the La Porte City Golf Club. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the fun starts at 7 p.m. Cost is $10 per person and the winner gets a refund of their entry fee…(unless we can convince them to donate it to the club!) Please help us with our tournament and get a team together to enter, although if you want to play and don’t have a team, show up and we will put you with a team! These are great, fun evenings and we make money for our club’s projects…it’s a win-win situation. We do need a few members to help run the tournament and a sign up sheet will be available at the next meeting.

Our two soup lunches are coming up too. They are Sunday, January 18 and Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the LPC Golf Club. Cost is a free will offering. Several members have generously donated soup and other needed items. Sign up sheet will be passed at the next meeting so please say yes when asked to help. If you can’t help consider coming for lunch or making a monetary donation.

Thanks to those who spent some time ringing the bell at Thriftway for the Salvation Army. Because of your help, we raised around $300 to 400(accurate figure to be provided at meeting) for the less fortunate in our community. I know Major Tamayo appreciates our efforts.
The club received a very nice thank you card from the board of directors for Crosslines. We presented them with a check for $471. This money was raised by setting out a basket at our December Waffle Breakfast.

2015 dues are now due and payable to the treasurer, Neal Keegan. The cost remains $80 for annual dues and $180 for dues and meals. We always have to pay international dues early so the sooner you can pay, the better the club’s cash flow. Thank you in advance for paying early.
Thanks for your support in our community. Hope to see you at the next meeting!

Sincerely,
