Lions Club Dues
It’s hard to believe another year has come and gone, but it has. This also means it is time to pay your yearly dues. Please be prepared to pay your dues at the February meeting, or mail them to Lion Keegan. Dues are: $190 for meals & dues and $80 for just the yearly dues. Meals & dues covers the cost for all meals, throughout the year, as well as the Lions Club dues. When paying just the $80, that enrolls you in the Lions Club membership only. Dues can be mailed to: Lion Neal Keegan – 815 Commercial St. – La Porte City, IA 50651. Your dues can also be paid at the February meeting.
Blood Drive Update
Our next blood drive will be held February 8th at the La Porte City Legion/VFW Hall. If you are able to donate, please consider doing so. For questions, please contact Lion Dick Hutton at 319-342-3554.
The Festival Committee and the Parade Committee continue to meet to get the details of this year’s festival lined up. We are excited to be as far along as what we are, but there are always places you can help out. We will be having a more in-depth update at the February meeting.
|February is known as National Heart Month by the American Heart Association (www.heart.org). Did you know that in the United States, heart disease, which includes heart attacks, accounts for 1 in 7 deaths. Here are some ways to help avoid a heart attack: Don’t smoke, and avoid second-hand smoke. • Treat high blood pressure if you have it. • Eat foods that are low in saturated fat, trans fat, sodium (salt) and added sugars.. • Be physically active. • Reach and maintain a healthy weight. • Control your blood sugar if you have diabetes. • Get regular medical check-ups. • Take medicine as prescribed. If you suspect you are having a heart attack, immediately call 911. For more information on this, please go to the American Heart Association’s website. Please take time to be heart healthy!!|
We are fortunate to be able to host three events for fundraising and raising our awareness in the community this month. Please get these events on your calendars, and bring not only yourself, but your friends and family. The events are: February 18-trivia night, February 19-soup lunch, and February 25-Cornhole Tournament. Be watching The Progress Review and Facebook for more information on these events. Also, if you are on Facebook and you see the event, please at least click interested as this also helps promote the event.
Looking for Project Ideas
There will soon be a survey going out that everyone is encouraged to participate in/comment on. The board has talked on how we would like to see the Lions Club get behind a project and use some of our proceeds from our events to fund the project. We are looking for everyone to submit your ideas for the Top 5 Projects, and the board will pick a winning entry.
