April Newsletter 2015
Our next meeting is scheduled Thursday, April 16, 2015, social at 6 p.m., meal at 7 p.m. with meeting to follow at the LPC Golf Club. Dick and Dee Hutton are making us lasagna, garlic bread and a salad for supper. Hope to see you there. At the next meeting, a Lions club scholarship committee will be formed to chose the recipients of our 4—$500 scholarships to be awarded to 2015 Union High graduates. The application deadline was March 31st and they need to be reviewed and a decision made about who will receive the scholarships.
At the last board meeting, the board decided to sponsor a little league team for a $100 donation to the program. The RAGBRAI ride was discussed and it was decided that since the Lions Club is heavily involved in the Festival of Trails we would not be participating with a booth, leaving that to other local churches and organizations. We do want to encourage our membership to help by supporting/volunteering for their favorite community group for the event.
Planning continues for the Festival of Trails 2015 edition. The next planning meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 20, 2015 at 8 p.m. at Shawn Mehlert’s home. The chainsaw carvers are making a repeat appearance this year and a scaled down version of the carnival will return. There will be a display of RVs and banners will be placed at the entrances to town for this year’s festival. We also need more sponsors for the festival. If you know someone who might be interested please contact me or Shawn Mehlert and we will follow up with them. Remember the Festival of Trails is scheduled for June 19-20th.
The Festival Parade Committee is hard at work making sure that this year’s parade will be the best yet. If you know of someone who might want to have an entry in the parade, contact me via email—bill@
kearnsfuneralservice.com or call me at 240-7724.
Just a reminder that if you still owe 2015 dues, please take care of paying them ASAP. The cost remains at $80 per year or $180 if you want to include meals. Mail dues to Neal Keegan, 815 Commercial, La Porte City, IA 50651.
Thanks for all you do for our community. Hope to see you at the next meeting!
